Cravens Heritage Trains - Get Involved
Do you have an interest in London Underground trains? Would you like to turn that interest into hands-on volunteering to restore and support a genuine former LU 3-car tube train? Read on - we've got something which may interest you!
Cravens Heritage Trains Ltd (CHT) is the name of the Company set up to preserve a genuine ex-London Underground tube train. The train is a deep level tube size, 3-car, 1960 Cravens of Sheffield built unit. The units were manufactured as prototype test trains for the renewal for the ageing 'Standard' stock of the 1930's.
The 3-car unit CHT owns has a few 'claims to fame'. It was one of the first trains to trial Automatic Train Operation; it was the last tube train to run on the London Underground Epping-Ongar shuttle and it has appeared in several films, not least one called 'Dead Georgeous'. In CHT ownership it also previously ran Heritage Railtours across the LU network.
Following lengthy discussions with both London Underground and the London Transport Museum, a decision has been taken to start the process of restoring the 3-car Cravens to full working order and to obtain certification to enable it to once again run rail tours across parts of the London Underground network.
Cravens Heritage Trains wishes to sincerely thank all parties involved during these discussions and looks forward to working together to jointly deliver the project.
It is now that we ask readers of this website to help us realise the long held ambition of restoring the Cravens Unit to running status. This is much to be done and we will need help with renovating the interior of the train, the seating and just about everything else inside the car.
You don't have to work on the trains or at Epping Signalling Museum to join us - your financial contributions and moral support are equally vital to our continued success.

Many details about train access, work parties, roles and even location are still to be finalised, but we need to be able to hit the ground running.
